Gelée Royale – Das Geheimnis der Bienenkönigin

Royal jelly - The secret of the queen bee

If you study the amazing abilities of bees, sooner or later you will come across a special substance: royal jelly. The name alone sounds regal - and that is no coincidence. But what is really behind this mysterious substance, which has been considered a true natural wonder for centuries?

What is royal jelly?

Royal jelly, often referred to as "queen's food juice", is a special substance produced by young worker bees. It is a milky secretion that is produced in the so-called foraging glands of the bees. Only very specific bee larvae receive this food - and only those that are to develop into queens.

This exclusive diet makes all the difference: while normal bee larvae are only fed royal jelly for a few days, the future queen receives the superfood for her entire life. This special treatment leads to completely different growth, a 50 times longer lifespan compared to worker bees and gives the queen the ability to lay up to 2,000 eggs a day

Why is royal jelly so special?

What distinguishes royal jelly from other bee products such as honey or propolis is its exclusive role within the bee colony. It is not a storage product, but is produced fresh - specifically for the queen's nutrition. Without royal jelly there would be no queen, and without a queen there would be no functioning bee colony.

This significance alone lends royal jelly a certain fascination. For centuries it has been a symbol of vitality, performance and vitality. Royal jelly is particularly precious because it can only be extracted from the hive by the beekeeper in very small quantities. All attempts to artificially imitate royal jelly in the laboratory have so far failed, as many of the ingredients are still not analytically detectable.

What does royal jelly look like?

Royal jelly has a creamy to jelly-like consistency, usually ivory-colored or slightly yellowish. It has a slightly sour smell and taste - quite different from the sweet honey we are used to from bees.

Royal jelly - a gift from nature

Royal jelly is more than just a product from the beehive - it is a central element in the cycle of every bee colony. It marks the beginning of a new queen and shows in an impressive way how cleverly nature is organized. Anyone interested in the world of bees will discover one of their greatest secrets here.
